Commitment to Access
Accessibility Statement
The Social Aisle is committed to ensuring our platform is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.
Conformance Status
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the standard cited by the Australian Government's Digital Service Standard, the U.S. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as interpreted by the Department of Justice, and the EU Web Accessibility Directive.
We are in partial conformance — the majority of content meets Level AA, but some areas described below are still being improved.
Measures We Have Taken
- Semantic HTML landmarks on every page (
main, nav, header, footer) - Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements
- Skip to content link available at the top of every page (press Tab on page load)
- All form inputs have visible, programmatically associated labels
- Colour contrast meets or exceeds 4.5:1 for normal text throughout
- Screen reader announcements for dynamic state changes (recording timer, upload progress, errors)
- ARIA labels on all interactive controls, including camera preview and playback video
- Keyboard-navigable interface — no keyboard traps
- Error messages identified by role and linked to the triggering field
lang="en-AU"declared on every page- Focus moves to confirmation message after a message is sent
Known Limitations
Video messages — captions not available
Video messages submitted by guests are user-generated content and are not automatically captioned. We are actively evaluating automatic captioning technology. In the meantime, if you require a transcript of a video message, please contact us and we will do our best to assist.
